2006 Vintage

VineyardMThere are 12.5 acres of vines at Sutherlands Creek, planted in April and October 2004.

VintageMA dry and warm vintage, coming about 4 weeks early as a consequence of the prolonged warm late summer & autumn temperatures. The yield was 0.5-1 tons per acre.

Winemaking
The hand-harvested grapes were chilled in small sealed containers, to 2°C, immediately after picking. Grapes were destemmed and crushed & transferred to the pneumatic press by elevator. The juice from the press was kept cold and clarified by settling, later fermented cool (15°C) with selected yeast in a 2,000 litre tank. Another 4,000 litres was fermented and matured in new & old oak pièces (228 litre casks).

Tasting Notes
This is an excellent example of this newly introduced variety that has seen some mixed results in Australia. Clearly the 'terroir' of our vineyard suits this grape as it expresses similar qualities to those of Europe. The aroma carries hints of apricot integrated with stylish new oak. Consistent with the palate where the fruit is restrained and persistent, the flavour lingers long in the mouth making it ideal with most dishes.
