2005 Vintage

VineyardMThis wine was made from the first crop of grapes from our plantings at Russells Bridge.
The new plantings of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Sémillon, and the older plantings of Chardonnay and Viognier were used to create this fine blend.

VintageMWith fairly average rainfall, the dry late spring was relieved by a downpour in late summer. Harvest time was normal (mid April), with the yield being 0.5-1 ton per acre.

Winemaking
The hand-harvested grapes were chilled in small sealed containers, to 2°C, immediately after picking. Grapes were destemmed and crushed, then transferred to the pneumatic press by elevator. The juice from the press was kept cold and clarified by settling, while later each varietal juice was fermented separately. The Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Pinot Gris portions were fermented cool in tank while the Viognier
and Chardonnay were fermented each in a single new 228 litre pièce. The blend was assembled
before bottling.

Tasting Notes
With a mixture of over 4 white varieties in this wine you would expect an aroma with many facets. However, it is the fusion of Viognier and Pinot Gris aromas that dominate the wine at this stage. Honey dew-like fragrance is the result. The fruit fills the mouth leading to a crisp fresh finish. As an accompaniment to a picnic on a warm day, or just as a refreshing drink, would be ideal for this wine.
